THE PURPOSE AND GOALS OF OUR CENTER

 

THE PURPOSE AND GOALS OF SUNSHINE ACADEMY INCLUDE:

-Nurturing healthy personalities in children by teaching trust, responsibility, self-esteem, and autonomy;

-Instilling the importance of families;

-Creating a safe environment in which children can learn and grow;

-Allowing each child to grow at his/her own rate physically, socially, and emotionally;

-Creating an environment that fosters a child's desire to attend school;

-Creating an environment that promotes positive interpersonal relationships between children and their teachers, parents, peers, and others;

-Assisting children in developing oral language for expression of thoughts and feelings;

-Providing opportunities for children to learn about other cultures and races: their history and customs;

-Introducing children to literature, music, and other art forms through hands on experiences;

-Promotimg children's self-confidence and self-esteem through learning respect for themselves and others;

-Encouraging good grooming and proper health techniques; and

-Helping children learn the importance of good nutrition.

Children will be helped to reach these goals through a flexable, yet secure, schedule of free play (inside and outside), planned group and individual activities, art, music, science, language development, number concepts, physical development, quiet periods, and snack and meal times.

Early childhood care and education should excite curiosity, stimulate creativity, expand intellectual and motor skills, create awareness, and help each child better understand him/herself and the world around him/her. This type of education happens everywhere, spontaneously and through planned activities.

STAFF

The staff of Sunshine Academy will meet, and in most cases exceed, all State Requirements for Child Care Center Teachers. Staff will continually be educated on new concepts and ideas about teaching young children. Every staff member is trained in first aid and most in CPR.

All staff are available to parents for discussion, conference, concerns, or ideas. Please, don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have.

CURRICULUM

The Sunshine Academy Curriculum is based on the premise that children learn through hands on experience, both planned and unplanned. The Lead Teacher in your childs' classroom is required to plan and post a schedule and lesson plan in advance. The basic Schedule and lesson plan format is designed for all children, yet is flexable enough to fit an individual childs' needs.

Basic, non-denominational Christian teachings will be introduced to your child through prayers at meal and snack times and through Bible stories and activities. We will also teach Christianity through holidays such as Easter and Christmas.

Each child will be evaluated each year to see what skills and milestones they have met/exceeded, and what areas they need to work on improving. We will discuss this assesment with you at your parent conference.
